Samuel Cushing Strout (1827-1914)

Maine Supreme Court Associate Justice

Samuel Strout was the grandson of Maine Revolutionary War Captain Enoch Strout and the only son of mercantile business owner Ebenezer Strout.

Strout ‘read the law’ working for Joseph Howard of the Howard & Shepley firm. Mr. Howard would later be elected Mayor of Portland, then a fellow Maine Supreme Court Associate Justice.

Around 1855, Judge Strout formed Strout & Howard then Strout & Gage.
